Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Use an operating system version that is still supported by its vendor.
- Keep free space for the launcher, Java, and Minecraft instances.
- Download the installer only from the official Tegra page.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”- Select Windows on the download page.
- Open the downloaded installer and confirm installation.
- If Windows displays a security confirmation, verify that the file came from
tegramc.com. - Open Tegra from the Start menu.
Learn why this warning may appear and how to verify the installer before continuing.
- Choose Apple Silicon for M1 or newer chips, or Intel for older Macs.
- Open the
.dmgand drag Tegra to Applications. - Open Tegra from the Applications folder.
If macOS blocks the first launch
Section titled “If macOS blocks the first launch”Tegra does not yet have a signature recognized by Apple. If you downloaded the app from the official website, you can allow that version manually:
- Try to open Tegra from Applications, then dismiss the macOS warning.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security.
- Under Security, click Open Anyway next to the message about Tegra.
- Confirm by clicking Open. You only need to approve that version on its first launch.
If the button does not appear, open Terminal, run the command below, and try to open Tegra again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Tegra.appOnly use this command for a copy downloaded from the official Tegra page. It removes the quarantine marker macOS adds to the download.
To understand the block and verify the file before allowing it, see security warnings on Windows and macOS.
- Download the
.AppImagefrom the official page. - Move the file to a folder where you intend to keep it. Avoid leaving it in a temporary folder.
- Mark the file as executable when required.
- Open it from your application menu or directly from the file.
The Tegra AppImage works with the launcher’s own updater. When a new version is ready, Tegra can download it and replace the current file after you confirm. The file must be in a folder where your user has write permission.
Steam Deck and Steam Machine
Section titled “Steam Deck and Steam Machine”On Steam Deck or Steam Machine with SteamOS, the automatic installer downloads the stable version by default, verifies the file, installs the AppImage at a fixed path, and adds Tegra to your Steam library.
- Enter Desktop Mode.
- Open Konsole.
- Paste the command below and press Enter:
curl -fsSL https://get.tegramc.com/install-steamos.sh | bashTo install the latest beta release instead, use:
curl -fsSL https://get.tegramc.com/install-steamos.sh | bash -s -- --beta--beta is shorthand for --channel beta. To explicitly select the stable channel, use --channel stable.
The installer does not use sudo and does not change the protected part of SteamOS. It creates:
- the app at
~/.local/share/tegra/Tegra.AppImage; - a Tegra entry in the application menu;
- a library shortcut using SteamOS’s official
steamos-add-to-steamcommand.
When it finishes, return to Gaming Mode on Steam Deck or Steam Machine and look for Tegra in your library. Restart Steam if the entry does not appear immediately.
The Steam shortcut only launches Tegra. Updates continue to be managed by the launcher. You can also run the same command again to download and install the latest stable version without creating the shortcut again. To keep receiving beta updates after installation, select the Beta channel in Tegra’s update settings.
Only use the command with the official get.tegramc.com address. If you prefer to review it before running it, open the installer as text in your browser.
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”Tegra opens initial setup and asks for language, appearance, and basic preferences. Tegra installs the right Java version when an instance needs it, so you do not need to install Java first.
If it does not open, see installation and download problems. Then continue to initial setup and Microsoft account.
